Mr. Ramesh Ramakrishnan is the Chairman of The Transworld Group, a shipping and logistics conglomerate with more than 20 offices across the globe and operating out of 30 ports. It commenced operations as a shipping agency and was the culmination of a long cherished dream by a dynamic first generation entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu, in south India, R Sivaswamy. It was his untimely demise in 1989 that led to the sudden induction of the present chairman Mr Ramesh Ramakrishnan into the business at a delicate and crucial juncture.
However with the benefit of experience gained from his father in the intervening years and with the guidance of senior members within the Transworld Group Mr.Ramesh Ramakrishnan has consolidated and propelled the Group into one of India's leading shipping houses. In addition to offices in every major city, port & ICD in India, the Group has international offices in Dubai, Singapore, Colombo, Muscat, London and the U.S.
He followed this up by establishing the international arm of the Group – ORIENT EXPRESS LINES DUBAI, a ship owning company in 1982. This was followed by BALAJI SHIPPING U.K. LIMITED which today is the leading liner operator from India to the Arabian Gulf. In addition to liner and feeder operations the Group has recently made forays into the field of Total Logistics with the state of the art Transworld Logistics Park in Jebel Ali and Logistics centers being built in Delhi, Mundra, Chennai and Nava sheva. The group is also a stake holder in the Vallarpadam Container Terminal
Mr. Ramesh Ramakrishnan attributes the success of the Group to constant Innovation. Transworld Group was one of the pioneers of containerization in India. Transworld followed this up by being the first container feeder operator in India.
With the establishment of the public listed company Shreyas Shipping Limited the Group entered the niche route of Coastal Container Feedering. The Group has extended the concept further by being the first company to move domestic sea borne containerized cargoes across India.
The Group has strengthened its presence in Singapore with the establishment of SHREYAS WORLD NAVIGATION LTD, a ship owning company which own ships under the Singapore flag.
The Group is involved in ship agency and represents major main line operators through its various Group companies.
