Captain Brian Course

Began his seagoing career in the early 70s with Shell tankers and served on a wide variety of vessels which included ULCCs, VLCCs, product tankers, PROBOs and OBOs, bulk carriers, chemical tankers and LPG tankers.

In July 1992, Capt. Course joined Vela International Marine Ltd and in May 1996 he moved ashore to a position with their Operations Department. Captain Course was made Director of Vela’s Quality Assurance Group in December 2006. In July 2007 he was appointed the Director of the Crude Scheduling Department, which is responsible for scheduling all the crude cargo liftings for Vela’s large fleet of owned and chartered VLCCs.

In addition to Captain Course’s regular duties, he has also chaired the OCIMF NaRSUC committee, was a member of the OCIMF team that rewrote ISGOTT edition 5, and was elected to the position of Chairman of the UAE Branch of the Nautical Institute, in May 2008.
